As a result of the current COVID19 pandemic we have seen differing reactions/approaches by all levels of Governments, media and medical “experts” on how ‘best’ to address it which has directly caused wide reaching dire economic results for our communities, in some cases, devastated local businesses.

How does Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) “lens” view the current situation and the overall response?
Can businesses now and in the future operate in a “safe” manner as a result of these major happenings, and how can we become more resilient going forward, and is there a method on how we can prevent or at least mitigate such events.

Learning Objectives:
•         Can “safety” regulatory compliance be achieved in a COVID19 workplace?
•         How to use the hierarchy of controls to mitigate risk in the workplace
•         How does risk assessment matrix work & it can address work challenges?
•         How to communicate risk and put it in perspective for all workers
•         Let’s see what evolves as result of the flow of the presentation & questions
                                                                  SPEAKER - STEVEN NEWHOUSE

With 25+ years of safety & facility operation experience, my clients can count on me as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) to support their best interests when representing them for any regulators concerns (such as our friends from WCB, Transport Canada, & beat (list) goes on …) or as I like to call these concerns, "imperial entanglements", such as the immortal Alec Guinness (Obi-Wan Kenobi) said in the original Star Wars.

I was influenced by a strong safety culture at my 1st real job for one a large municipality, where all work processes no matter how simply incorporated safety training as part of their orientation.

After extensive education/training & experience in a career in the operations field of multiply uber-facilities, I wanted a career change, this being helped along by my natural aging process so I looked for a related logical pivot = enter health & safety.

Safety should never be "politically" driven process by the executive or the union affiliations of an organization to ensure it is unbiased and "ethical" in its approach to resolving OH&S challenges.
